Lidija Kolovrat was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1962.
Czech roots from her father side who was an inventive engineer, and her mother from Herzegovina, gave her a strict education, but her choice was always to look for transformation and to understand about the invisible. While studying to be a film director Lidija made the decision to switch to fashion and textile technology. With a strong sensibility, the sense of touch has taken her to work passionately with textiles.
In 1990 she moved to Portugal, returned to fashion and opened her own studio and fashion label in Lisbon.
Kolovrat represents strength, dignity, sun and fire. It is an ancient symbol with spiritual power. "Kolo" means wheel, and "vrat" means turning. The kolovrat represents the endless cycle of birth and death.
“The feeling is behind the creation”
While adhering to this belief Lidija also believes that there is an intrinsic relationship between the concept and the technique. The message of a social cultural heritage and identity infuses and challenges Lidija’s work. She is constantly learning from the universe and applying what she learns through improvisation and experimentation; both fundamental to her work process.
